Boosts motivation

Studies have shown that adults that play team sports tend to find that they feel more motivated in their day to day lives. When we take part in team games, we feel a responsibility not to let our team members down, and so we work extra hard to ensure that we don’t let anyone down. This attitude rubs off on our day to day activities, which means that people who play team sports tend to be more motivated when it comes to their work.

Reduces stress

For the most part, a huge percentage of adults are stressed out. Team sports offer a welcome break from this stress, as they can be a great way to reduce tension and let out any frustrations that you are feeling. Whether you choose to take part in weekly Cork Tag Rugby games and training or join a football, hockey or basketball league, it doesn’t matter, what matters is that you are taking steps to stay active and reduce the stress that you are feeling. If you fail to reduce your stress levels, you may find that your mental health is impacted and you become more prone to conditions like anxiety and depression. That’s why it’s so vital that you take stress seriously and find ways, such as playing team sports, to reduce the stress that you feel.

Important for social skills

Playing team sports allows you to build a network of friends in the area who you can spend time with socialising on a regular basis. For anyone who finds themselves feeling lonely, team sports can be a great way to increase social skills. If you feel like you could do with being more sociable, then perhaps it could be a good idea to sign up to a local team, so that you are able to make some new friends.

While team sports tend to be played mostly by children rather than adults, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t highly beneficial, because they are. Team sports come with many benefits for adults, it’s just a case of taking the time to find a suitable team sport that you are happy to play and enjoy taking part in. If you’re not sure what you would enjoy doing, go along to a few practice sessions for different teams and see which one is the best fit for you.
