Exercising is a chore for the vast majority of us, and while you can look and watch in envy as some muscle-clad superman does his fiftieth pull-up, you can do something about it. Digging down into the fundamentals of why we want to get ripped, it’s because we see our favorite athletes doing their thing, and it makes us go “damn, I wanna be like that!” But do we ever venture up from the armchair? No, the closest we would ever get to getting ripped is by talking about sports to the guys in work and all promising to go to the gym together, but it doesn’t happen. Either we give up after a couple of training sessions, or we don’t have the motivation to go. And it’s the latter that needs addressing. For a lot of us, the gym is boring, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get fit! Try these out for size.
The workout to end all workouts! Boxing isn’t just a few jabs at a punching bag. It’s physically draining, and if you decide to go and do it properly, you’ll see how much of a demand it is on every faculty, not just your body! You will be pushed into difficult situations, and you will have to muster up all your strength and will to punch your way through to the end. You can join boxing gyms and train with the others, but also there are places that do intensive training courses where you have a proper fight at the end, in public, where people pay to watch you. The money is for charity, so it’s a way to make sure you see it through, but if you are completely unfit before doing this, it’s going to be a shock to the system!
Get On Your Bike!
Far from boring, getting on a bike and riding rough terrain, or taking a 5-mile ride along quiet country roads all come with their own sets of challenges. For a complete cardio workout, biking is hard to beat. Cycling up steep hills will get you to pedal harder, and navigating uneven surfaces on the way down will help to keep your wits about you. If you don’t own a bike, it’s never too late to start, and there are suppliers like Stead Cycles who stock reputable makers like Cannondale and Mongoose. But make sure you discuss your needs with the supplier just so you are getting what you need out of your bike.
Is there anything manlier? Well, yes, plenty. But this is probably the thing that will make every fiber of your body ache while also earning you some extra man points, and you don’t even need to wear a check shirt! By bringing the axe down the center of your body, you will activate your core in the same way as you would do a crunch, as well as hit your back, triceps, and biceps. Another benefit is that you burn between 400 and 500 calories, but you’d also get plenty of firewood for the winter!
